In the past lesson, we’ve learned about the Volcanoes, So here are some 10 Interesting and Useful Trivia about Volcanoes!

DID YOU KNOW?

1. The danger area around a volcano covers about a 20-mile radius.

(so we need to evacuate immediately if we are near in AN ERUPTING volcano!)

2. There are more than 500 active volcanoes in the world. (more than half of these volcanoes are part of the "Ring of Fire", a region that encircles the Pacific Ocean.)

3. The word volcano originally comes from the name of the Roman god of fire, Vulcan. (Amazing, Right?)

4. Where is the Tallest Volcano? Well, It’s incredibly located on Mars! (its name is Olympus Mons, is a giant shield volcano that rises to an elevation of 27 km, and it measures 550 km across.)

5. There are also volcanoes found on the ocean floor and even under icecaps, such as those found in Iceland and Hawaii!

6. Pumice is a unique volcanic rock (igneous) that can float in water.

(It can also be used in beauty salons for removing dry skin.)

7. Some famous volcanic eruptions of modern times include Mount Krakatoa in 1883, Novarupta in 1912, Mount St Helens in 1980 and Mt Pinatubo in 1991.

8. Grow, Grow, Grow! Volcanoes are growing Quickly!

9. Indonesia ranks first in terms of number of active volcanoes throughout history. Second position is taken by Japan while U.S. ranks third in the list.

10. Over last 10,000 years, a total of 1,500 or more volcanoes have erupted.
