FACTORS AFFECTING CLIMATE
LATITUDE
Latitude is responsible on the location of north or south of the equator by angular measurements ranging from 0 degrees to 90 degrees at the poles. Every latitudes on Earth receive different amount of sunlight which is the key factor in determining a region's climate.
ELEVATION/ ALTITUDE
Altitude is the subject's distance from the sea. Normally, climatic conditions become colder as the altitude increases .This is why a lot of high-up places such as mountaintops often get snow for most of the year when other places do not, no matter how low the temperature drops.
NEARBY WATER BODIES
Large bodies of water like seas, oceans and large lakes has a role on affecting climate. Water heats and cools more slowly than land.
OCEAN CURRENTS
Ocean currents is one of the factors affecting the climate of a place or an area. Much as in the air and rock cycles, convection circulates water in currents. This is caused by the movement of cold water to hot. Warm water flows from the equator and cold from the poles. This movement is interrupted or altered by large landmasses.
TOPOGRAPHY
The topography of a certain place or an are can greatly affect our climate. Mountain ranges are natural barriers to air movement.
VEGETATION
With vegetation covering about 20% of our planet, it’s no surprise that plants affect climate. Since climate is basically an average of the weather over a long period of time, vegetation is important to climate. Plants also help keep our climate stable over time by offsetting temperature and moisture fluctuations through transpiration.
WIND PATTERNS
Winds that blow mainly from one direction during a given period. prevailing winds effect the amount of precipitation that a region receives If the prevailing winds form warm air, they may carry moisture.
